Glynneath Golf Club - Matthew wins Junior Open
Thursday, 08 October 2009 15:22

Matthew Davies was a worthy winner of the recent Junior Open competition. Playing off a handicap of 6, Matthew navigated his way around the course in an outstanding 67 shots, giving him a stableford score of 46 points. Unsurprisingly, he had a healthy winning margin over the rest of the field. Unfortunately for Matthew, with the event being played from the yellow tees, his excellent score won't stand as a course record - currently held by Leighton Rees with 69.

What had started out as a plan to host a junior open event resulted in what could be best described as a 'Glynneath-Pontypridd get together'. Out of the 40 juniors to take part, Pontypridd contributed an impressive 23, with Glynneath adding the remaining 17.

A great atmosphere could be felt at the prize-giving ceremony with Club President Max Boyce present to hand out the prizes. The excitement filled room kicked off the presentation by singing happy birthday to Pontypridd Junior members Ella Jones-Iles and William Pennell.

It was a privilege, once again, to have Max's presence and he gave out the prizes in the following order:
